RSCs - Stimulating and Supporting Innovation in Learning

This strand was delivered by Alastair Clark and Barbara Nance, NIACE, as part of the JISC RSC London e-Learning Online Network (LEON), March 2007.  The sessions are now finished, but we're leaving open the modules for future exploration.

Welcome to this section of the online conference. This section is intended to be a place where you can explore with others two main topics:

  • What is Web 2.0?
  • How can we use the tools of web 2.0 in devising teaching?

  • Introduction - What do you think about Web 2.0?
To start things off - we have a short video where 7 people have been asked about What would you like to gain from the conference strand?
Web 2.0. Please take a look at the video and then use the forum to 'have your say'.

    • What does Web 2.0 mean to you (if anything!)
    • What do you hope to get out of being part of this conference strand?
    • Do any of the speakers on the video represent your own view of Web 2.0?

  • Video- What is Web 2.0? Resource
  • Transcript Word document
  • What do you think? Forum

  • Tuesday was Wiki day
  • 'Wiki about Wikis'
This section will explore how collaborative online documents (wikis) can be used as as learning tool.

Firstlty it is a chance for everyone to 'have a go' at using a wiki. (It really doesn't matter if you get it wrong - we are all learning. The session will work best if we have have a go.

Secondly we can use the wiki itself to explore what wikis can do for us in education. Are you up for it? I hope so - take a look at the background page and then wiki away!

Note about the forum: Even though we are now looking at Wikis the 'Have Your say' forum is still there for us all to use (and if you haven't introduced yourself - plesae do!)

Note about timing: Following useful feedback from members of this group we are suggesting that we set initial time deadlines for activities. So.......... here goes - it would be great if everyone could make at least one Wiki contribution by 11.59 pm on Tuesday 13th March!

Thursday was a day for review and two live online discussions.

The discussions are to review and consider the topics discussed during this event. Also to discuss the other Web 2.0 tools that are available. What have you used and how effective are they within teaching?

  • 10:00 Using Web 2.0 Chat
  • You can see a transcript of our 'chat' by going to the chat area and selecting 'View past chat sessions'. We have also added it to the WikiChat below. Feel free to add your own additional thoughts and comments.
